Overview
The Waikiki private stand-up paddle lesson from Waikiki Beach Services is a 75-minute one-on-one session from the beach at the Royal Hawaiian, with 15 minutes on sand and an hour on the water. It suits first-timers aged 13 and up staying in central Waikiki. The biggest drawback: changes inside 48 to 72 hours are charged in full.
Highlights
- Private instruction at $150 for one person, dropping to $130, $115 and $95 per person for groups of two, three and four (operator site, October 2026).
- 75-minute format: about 15 minutes of safety and technique on the sand, then an hour on the water inside the Waikiki reef.
- Board, paddle, all equipment and a complimentary rash guard are included; instructors are lifeguard and CPR certified.
- Check-in is at the Waikiki Beach Services beach desk at the Royal Hawaiian, 2259 Kalakaua Ave, so no transport is needed if you stay nearby.
- Operator-level rating of 4.7 from 168 reviews shown on the Greetwell listing as of October 2026 (not specific to this lesson).
What to Expect
- Sign the online waiver sent by email, then check in 10 to 15 minutes early at the Royal Hawaiian beach desk, 2259 Kalakaua Ave; a parent or guardian must check in any 13 to 17 year old and stay on the beach.
- The instructor spends roughly 15 minutes on the sand covering stance, paddling, balance, turning and ocean safety.
- You launch from the Royal Hawaiian beach into shallow, sandy-bottomed water protected by the Waikiki reef.
- For about an hour the instructor stays beside you, correcting technique and guiding you along the Waikiki shoreline.
- You return to the beach desk, where photography and video can be bought as an extra; small bags and shoes can be left at the counter but valuables are discouraged.
