Overview
The guided Mokulua Islands kayak and e-bike tour from Active Oahu Tours is a 5-hour outing: an e-bike ride to Kailua Beach, a 60-80 minute paddle each way to Moku Nui, a permitted island visit, then lunch and shave ice. It suits fit adults aged 16 and over; the drawback is the $273 price and 4.5 miles of open-bay paddling.
Highlights
- Replaces the car shuttle of the standard Mokulua tour with a 7-minute e-bike ride from the Kailua storefront to Kailua Beach Park, with trailers carrying the kayaks.
- Guided paddle of 60-80 minutes each way across Kailua Bay to Moku Nui, about 4.5 miles in total (Manawa listing).
- Moku Nui landing permit, lunch, shave ice, water, snacks, snorkel gear and a 15-liter dry bag included.
- $273.22 per visitor and $250.48 kamaaina/military on Greetwell; private option for 1-2 people $493.83 per person (October 2026).
- Groups are 6-7 guests per guide; e-bike riders must be 16 or older.
What to Expect
- Check in at the Kailua storefront at 134B Hamakua Dr. 30 minutes before the start (Greetwell) or 1 hour before (Manawa) for a safety demo, route overview, kayak lesson and e-bike orientation.
- Ride across the road to Hamakua Marsh to look for native waterbirds, then continue about 7 minutes by e-bike to Kailua Beach Park.
- Meet the guide in the water, review how to enter and exit the kayak, and paddle across Kailua Bay toward the Mokulua Islands for 60-80 minutes, with an optional stop at Popoia Island or Lanikai Beach for snorkeling if the guide agrees.
- Land on Moku Nui, walk to Queen's Bath and the tide pools, and if weather allows hike the back side of the island; snacks and water are served here.
- Paddle 60-80 minutes back to Kailua Beach, return the kayak and ride the e-bikes back to the storefront.
- Finish with lunch and shave ice at the shop, where the guide takes final photos.
