Kauai

Overview

Fathom Five's 1-tank Koloa Landing discover scuba is a 3-hour beginner shore dive on Kauai's south shore: a 1-hour lesson, then one guided dive with up to 4 students per instructor, from $155 with all gear. It suits uncertified adults and children 10+ wanting a first dive without a boat. The drawback is a 72-hour cancellation cutoff booked direct.

Highlights

  • No certification needed; a 1-hour academic and pool-style lesson covers equipment, mask clearing, buoyancy and hand signals before the dive
  • Shore entry at Koloa Landing, the same protected site Fathom Five uses for its certified 2-tank shore dive
  • Maximum 4 participants per instructor, per the Abroad Guide listing
  • From $155 on the operator site (code DIVE7 takes 7% off); wetsuit, mask, fins and regulator included
  • Minimum age 10; uncertified divers must clear a medical questionnaire

What to Expect

  1. Check in and get fitted for gear at the Fathom Five shop, 3450 Poipu Rd, Koloa.
  2. Spend about 1 hour on an introductory lesson covering equipment use, mask clearing, buoyancy, breathing underwater and hand signals.
  3. Walk into the water from shore at Koloa Landing with your instructor, who stays with the group of no more than 4 throughout.
  4. Make one guided dive over the reef, where listings mention coral formations, endemic fish and turtles.
  5. Return to the shop, about 3 hours after check-in.

What's Included

  • 1 hour of instruction with a certified instructor
  • Scuba equipment: wetsuit, mask, fins, regulator and tank
  • Snacks and drinks

What's Not Included

  • Transportation to the shop
  • Gratuity
  • Camera support or storage (the provider does not handle personal underwater cameras, per the Abroad Guide listing)

Restrictions and Requirements

  • Minimum age 10
  • Uncertified divers must complete and pass a medical questionnaire; medical concerns must be resolved more than 48 hours before the dive
  • Not recommended for people with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health or pregnancy
  • Not wheelchair accessible

Cancellation Policy

On the operator's Try Scuba page, cancelling within 72 hours of the dive forfeits the booking fee; weather cancellations are rescheduled or refunded. Viator-based reseller listings instead state a full refund up to 24 hours before departure, so the terms depend on where you book. Checked October 2026 on fathomfive.com and AAA TripCanvas.
