Kauai

Overview

The Dive Kauai Koloa Landing discover scuba dive is a 2.5–3 hour shore-entry introduction to scuba for non-certified people aged 10 and up: four skills in shallow water, then one dive to 40 feet maximum. It suits first-timers who want groups of 4 or fewer per instructor. The main drawback is that aborting the dive brings no refund.

Highlights

  • No certification needed; a PADI Discover Scuba orientation, shallow-water skills practice and one supervised dive to 40 feet maximum
  • Groups of 4 divers or fewer per instructor, with marine-life briefings before the dive
  • Shore entry at Koloa Landing on Kauai's south shore, with dive time averaging 20–40 minutes
  • Scuba gear, wetsuit, snacks and cold non-alcoholic drinks included; from $149 on TripOutside, $170.43 on Greetwell (October 2026)
  • Rated 4.8 from 166 reviews on Greetwell as of October 2026

What to Expect

  1. Before arrival you complete a 20-minute online orientation and a PADI medical questionnaire; some conditions require written physician approval.
  2. You arrive 15 minutes early at the Koloa Landing dive site already wearing your swimsuit, since there are no changing facilities.
  3. The instructor fits your gear and wetsuit and gives a site and marine biology briefing.
  4. You practice four basic scuba skills in shallow water until the instructor is satisfied.
  5. You then make one guided dive to a maximum depth of 40 feet, lasting 20–40 minutes on average, where green sea turtles, moray eels and reef fish are commonly seen at this site.
  6. After the dive you must wait 18 hours before flying, taking a helicopter tour or driving to Waimea Canyon, all of which exceed 1,000 feet.
